Drunk Driving Organizations

Drinking and driving has become a heinous crime due to the public outcry in the last 20 years and due to so many young and senseless deaths caused by  DWI’s, the punishment has finally started to fit the crime.

There are several popular drunk driving organizations that have gained popularity over the years. I’m sure we all know of MADD and SADD with their public service in our communities. But there are other organizations which don’t get the same notoriety but can sometimes be even more helpful to you on a local level.

About a mile after I left the bar…

Five years ago, I was out at an Irish pub with some friends and I knew I had somewhere to be in the morning so I left a little early that night. About a mile after I left the bar, I knew I shouldn’t have been driving, but that didn’t stop me. I was driving on Route 70 through Cherry Hill, New Jersey when I saw the lights of a police car signaling me to pull over. I knew I was over the legal limit to drive and when he asked me to step out of the car, I had no doubt I was going to be arrested for DWI.

Alexandra Kerry arrested for drunk driving

The daughter of Democratic senator John Kerry has been arrested in Hollywood and faces drink-driving charges.

Los Angeles police say 36-year-old Alexandra Kerry was stopped by officers on a Hollywood street after midnight and failed a sobriety test.

Officer Bruce Borihanh says she was booked at the Hollywood police station and was held for about five hours. She was released at about 5.30am after posting $5,000 (£3,004) bail.

DWI Laws Getting Tougher

The New York Senate gave unanimous approval to Leandra’s law, just one day after it got unanimous support in the Assembly. The law is named for Leandra Rosado. The 11 year-old was killed when her friend’s mom drove drunk, and crashed on the way to a sleepover in Manhattan.  Leandra’s father joined Governor Paterson for the announcement.

The facts about DWI in NJ

From The State of NJ:

The BAC threshold determining drunk driving was changed from 0.10 percent to 0.08 percent in early 2004. Consuming even small amounts of alcohol dulls the senses, decreases reaction time, and hampers judgement, vision and alertness. If you consume any amount of alcohol and your driving is affected, you can be convicted of drunk driving.

Sober Sam on “Ridin’ Dirty Radio”

We have decided to do an interview for a radio show that broadcasts one hour a day devoted strictly to drinking and driving called Ridin’ Dirty Radio.  Ken Sharp, the host  is curious to know how it got started and the reasons we decided to get involved in saving lives.
