The Holidays and Drunk Driving

As New Year’s Eve approaches, it is important to plan ahead for your celebration.  The highest number of alcohol related car accidents take place between Thanksgiving and New Year’s.

MADD believes that over 1,000 people lose their lives during the holidays from late November to the end of the year. Last year alone, nearly 12,ooo people lost their lives due to drunk driving, deaths that all could have been avoided.

Tiger Woods Suspected of Drinking and Driving

According to The Star, a Florida Highway Patrol officer believes that Tiger Woods was drinking the day he crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and then a tree outside his house.

On November 30th, the trooper requested an investigative subpoena for Woods’ blood test results but was turned down by the State Attorney’s Office because there was not enough information provided. However, at the time, the document listed the possible cause of the crime as, “Driving Under the Influence with Property Damage”. The subpoena request went on to say, “The driver lost control of his vehicle, crashed and was transported to the hospital. A witness stated that the driver had consumed alcohol earlier in the day and the same witness removed the driver from the vehicle after the collision”.

It is also believed that the driver of the vehicle, “was prescribed medication (Ambien and Vicatin (sic)). Impairment of the driver is also suspected due to the careless driving that resulted in the traffic crash.”

Drinking and Driving Crackdown in NJ

The Cedar Grove Police Department announced that it will participate in the impaired driving enforcement campaign, “Over the Limit, Under Arrest,” the year-end statewide crackdown, between Dec. 7 and Jan. 3, 2010.

During the crackdown period, Cedar Grove officers will be out in full force to detect, arrest and prosecute any motorist found to be operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The “Over the Limit, Under Arrest” program helps to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through high visibility enforcement and public education tools, including posters and banners. Launched nationally in 1999, the program works to combat drunk driving during some of the busiest travel times of the year.

Florida Gators Suspend Carlos Dunlap Over DUI Charge

Just a few days before the SEC Championship game against #2 ranked Alabama, the Florida Gators suspended their star defensive end, Carlos Dunlap over his recent DUI arrest.

Police in Gainesville, Florida found Dunlap late Monday night, asleep at the wheel while stopped at a red light. He was arrested and taken into custody without any problems.

Carlos Dunlap is a sure top-ten pick in the NFL draft next year but may have cost himself a top five selection as well as the millions of dollars that go with that honor.

David Hasselhoff’s Ex-Wife Arrested For Drunk Driving

Pamela Bach, the ex wife of David Hasselhoff was arrested for drunk driving this past weekend after registering a breathalyzer reading of nearly twice the legal limit.

She was arrested Saturday night by California Highway Patrol, booked and released later that night.

David Hasselhoff has had many battles with alcohol in the past including a video that released by his daughter of the former Knight Rider star shirtless, eating a hamburger and mumbling into the camera. He was also hospitalized over the weekend for what was reported to be alcohol poisoning but he and his representatives are now disputing that claim.
