Man Kills One and Injures a Second in DWI Crash

MINNEAPOLIS– John Peterson, 23 was arrested on suspicion of DWI, criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation after hitting another car from behind, sending the two passengers to the hospital.

The first victim,Kandyce Stoffel, 23, of North Mankato was first put on life support, but later died of her injuries. The second victim, 25 year old Travis Smith, was released from the hospital Monday.

Peterson’s preliminary blood alcohol content was 0.164, and witnesses say the suspect was at a bar with the victims earlier that night. Apparently he made advances toward Stoffel making her uncomfortable. Police say they are unsure if Peterson recognized the girl from the bar.
