Carmen Huertas will be sentenced today after she admittedly drunkenly drove a station wagon with children into a NYC highway wreck that killed one of them and injured others.
Huertas pleaded guilty to manslaughter last August after she killed 11-year-old Leandra Rosado in the car accident. The conviction spurred what has come to be known as “Leandras Law,” making it it a felony to drive drunk with a child in the car.
Leandra’s father, Lenny Rosado, believes Huertas should serve as many years as his daughter was old, 11. But the judge in the case is expected to sentence Huertas to more than 1-3 years but less than the 5-15 year maximum.
